Contributing Experts and Scientists

To ensure a broad range of multidisciplinary know-how, the id-eee institute seeks to integrate the knowledge of skilled experts into its various projects and research activities. So far the following renowned professionals have been welcomed and co-opted to the institute to collaborate closely and regularly on projects:

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Andreas Schleicher
Area of contributions for id-eee:
Mechatronics

"I’m motivated by the desire to work for the common good and promote sustainable development processes, using my skills and expertise to provide viable solutions. International cooperation has been a recurring theme throughout my professional life.  My stay in Ethiopia has challenged my Eurocentric perspective and reinforced my commitment to development cooperation."

Prof. Dr. Schleicher’s area of expertise covers a wide range of issues related to the commercial use of regenerative energy sources in developing countries. His three-year stint in Ethiopia, the founding of the Adama Institute of Sustainable Energies in 2010, and his involvement in various projects on biogas and solar energy make him an excellent choice for our institute.

Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Elmar Steurer
Areas of contributions for id-eee:
Project Management; Finance & Investment Controlling

"Perseverance is what’s required in the energy sector and the project business alike; tenacity is a key to success. Investing in renewable energies will prove to be of advantage to all stakeholders if you strive to meet not just your environmental but also your economic goals."

Having worked in finance at DaimlerChrysler and BMW for several years, Prof. Dr. Steurer is a noted expert on corporate risk management. His executive position at RWE provided him with a deep insight into the structures of and processes in the energy industry. Since 2011 he is active as a tenured professor at the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (Bavaria/Germany), where he was elected Vice-President in Spring 2013. His experience makes him a valuable asset to our institute especially when it comes to issues such as the funding of large-scale projects and the necessary risk control measures involved.

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Bernhard Lau
Areas of contributions for id-eee:

Photovoltaics; Lighting Technology

"In poorer countries, there is a direct relationship between lighting and quality of life. Lighting contributes to the maintenance and improvement of the standard of living. The transition to a sustainable economy is generally seen as indispensable to our survival here on Earth. This means efficient use of energy and utilization of renewable energy sources. A goal that I'm committed to."

Prof. Dr. Lau studied physics at the University of Tübingen and wrote his doctoral thesis in the field of electron optics and laser technology. He held an executive position at SEL (Esslingen) for several years and served as a tenured professor at the Ulm University of Applied Sciences (Baden-Würtemberg/Germany), starting in 1986; this combined experience has made him a highly-regarded name in the development of lighting sources and the utilization of light for the generation of energy. His extensive know-how has rendered him a highly valuable member of our institute, specializing in the field of optical engineering.
